MEET THE FOUNDER, PHILIP BLAGG

My working life involved experiencing extreme events in remote locations in hazardous environments. That was the outer world I shared with coworkers and communities in which I performed my tasks. Personally, my inner world was hidden from those closest to me in a shroud of silence. Here on earth, we are on a journey together. How we engage with one another is crucial at this time of critical stressors we are all exposed to. We can improve our relationships using tools accessible to each of us.

EXPRESS WAYS’ MISSION

My life’s mission is to empower others to find their voice, improve relationships, and build trustful communities. Sharing my story with a broader audience is therapeutic, even though it’s not therapy. When clinical help isn’t accessible, “Peer Para Counselor” services can fill the gap.

I see peers as equals, regardless of titles or societal rankings, and recognize our shared universal needs. From wildfire-threatened western states to remote Antarctic bases and off-grid Nevada towns, I’ve studied diverse relationships across various settings.

My enduring interest in mental health, emotional intelligence, and behavior has brought me the peace of mind I’ve long sought.

THE JOURNEY I HAVE TAKEN

My earliest memories include sensing a deep shame about myself and family. That seemed to be hardwired into my psyche in some way. Of course, the stories I was told reinforced this sense of guilt by association. What I learned in my family and in Sunday school very early on left an impression that has been difficult to shake out of my mind. Tales of a violent murder were toned down for my siblings and me. Tales of sins and punishment scared me into silence and compliance.

Fortunately, there was another inner voice calling me to explore the world, both the outer glow and the inner glow. The words I swallowed were eating me up. The anger that ensued cost me dearly. The therapy I engaged in helped tremendously. Ongoing dialogues with my peers enhances resiliency and prevents a relapse. I invite you to travel on The Road To New Solutions with me.
